White Vs Ivory For Men

My dress is ivory and when selecting men`s attire our store said that the men need to wear ivory shirts instead of white or my dress will look "dingy." Does this make sense or has anyone had experience with this? I think my dress will just look ivory (it is not supposed to be bright like white) and that the men in grey cutaways would look clashing in ivory shirts.
Please help.

Is there a rule that says the men must wear either white or ivory? Fashion is forever changing so you can pretty much do what you want to and set your own trend. I think that it would be nice to have the men in coordinating shirts that are not white or ivory. You have many options.
