Father/Daughter Dance

I was wondering if someone would have a suggestion for a Father/Daughter dance. I am not particularly "close" to my father, so I do not want a song that is too sappy. However, he has been there for me in his own way, and I want him to know that even though we haven`t been that close that I appreciate what he has done for me and that I do not take him for granted.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Hi Brenda,

We`re planning a wedding and have the same issue going on.
My daughter is much closer to her Stepfather than to her Father. Her Father and I have always had a good relationship, so I know that he wishes things were different. He, like your Dad, was always there "in his own way".

Two songs we`re considering are:

Turn Around - Kingston Trio/Jimmy Rogers
- Harry Belafonte, Alan Greene, and Malvina Reynolds
Where are you goin`, my little one, little one?
Where are you goin`, my baby my own?
Turn around and you`re two, turn around and you`re four
Turn around and you`re a young girl, going out of the door.

Turn around
Turn around
Turn around and you`re a young girl goin` out of the door.

Where are you goin,` my little one, little one?
Little dirndls* and petticoats, where have you gone?
Turn around and you`re tiny, turn around and you`re grown
Turn around and you`re a young wife with babes of your own.

Turn around, turn around
Turn around and you`re a young wife, with babes of your own.

Where are you goin,` my little one, little one?
Where are you goin`, my baby my own?
Turn around and you`re two, turn around and you`re four
Turn around and you`re a young girl, going out of my door.

Times Of Your Life - Paul Anka
- William M. Lane and Roger S. Nichols

Good morning, yesterday
You wake up and time has slipped away
And suddenly it`s hard to find
The memories you left behind
Remember, do you remember?

The laughter and the tears
The shadows of misty yesteryears
The good times and the bad you`ve seen
And all the others in between
Remember, do you remember
The times of your life? (do you remember?)

Reach out for the joy and the sorrow
Put them away in your mind
The mem`ries are time that you borrow
To spend when you get to tomorrow

Here comes the saddest part (comes the saddest part)
The seasons are passing one by one
So gather moments while you may
Collect the dreams you dream today
Remember, will you remember
The times of your life?

Gather moments while you may
Collect the dreams you dream today
Remember, will you remember
The times of your life?

Of your life
Of your life
Do you remember, baby
Do you remember the times of your life?
Do you remember, baby
Do you remember the times of your life?

Brenda,
An absolutely beautiful, very appropriate song for your situation is titled "A Song For My Daughter". It is a song from the father to his daughter and works equally well for a distant relationship or a father/daughter close relationship.

I don`t want a sappy song either so i was thinking of IN my life by the beatles, or how sweet it is to be loved by you by james taylor, or the way you look tonight by frank sinatra.

Hope that helps
