Baptism Ettiquette

My husband was asked by his niece to baptize her child. Am I being unreasonable, I think he should decline, simply because I beleive that once you are married that this should be something you partake in together, choosing to baptize is a huge responsibility & therefore should be something you ask couples to do unless they are simple. Please let me knwo what you think.

You probably mean "single" and not "simple". Being a godparent isn`t as serious as it was years and years ago. Years ago godparents were expected to care for the child if anything unfortunate happened to the parents, they were expected to see to the child`s spiritual upbringing. Today being a godparent is just a ceremonial title, it doesn`t carry any responsibiity or commitment. So, there`s no need to limit the honor to married couples.
