Black For A Summer Wedding???

Hi. I am getting married in September, and I just LOVE the idea of Black bridesmaid dresses. I think they are SO elegant and different. I am going with simple white Cala Lily flowers. Do you think thsi is ok? Or is it inappropriate due to the season?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Hey Allison, I sa y go with what you like. I am getting married in August and the girls as well are wearing black floor length dresses with a burgendy organza jacket over. Sure people have made their comments about it not being "summer" colours but all in all its your decision. Also black is practical for the girls and if they are going to put out money for a dress at least hey can get use out of it again. :))
PS i am having Cala Lillies and Lily of the Valleys.. Good choice ))

I am getting married Labor Day weekend & my vision was always to have a b & w bridal party. Yes the girls are wearing black halter style long dresses. It just looks so elegant. Plus my reception is outdoors. I can`t wait!

I love the idea of black bridesmaid dresses. I`ve seen a fabulous b/w bridal gown for myself and in my belief black and white looks so elegant. Have a great day.

I am getting married on August 24, 2002 and my bridesmaid`s dresses are black and white. They are very elegant. And floor length. Plus, the bridesmaids love the dresses, and black looks good on almost everyone! Your flowers are a good choice too.

I just got married in April. Bridesmaids wore black dresses and their bouquets were white calla lilies. They looked gorgeous. I also had my centerpieces made of all callalilies.

I used the exact same colors, though I got married in March. Black bridesmaids dressed, cala lilies for table decorations, and tons of red/berry/deep red roses for bouquets and other arrangements.

I saw go with what you want...you only get married once.

Hi Allison,
Yes the Black and White Colors are fine. I have been to a couple of weddings with those colors and they are very elegant. I have my own business in Anchorage, and a lot of brides are going with that color. Not only that, but your attendants will be able to wear their dress again. Calla Lilies are beautiful, but they do start going up in price that time of year. Make sure your florist can get them in. If not, the Black Magic Roses from South America are beautiful with big heads. California Roses have smaller heads and are not near the quality as the South Americans.

I was married August 2003. My dress was ivory and the bridesmaids wore a 2 piece black halter dress that we picked out the fabric for and had made. They were soooo elegant. They had calle lillies and I had ivory roses. The reception was outdoors and was decorated with ivory and black. It should`ve been in Martha Stewart`s wedding book!!

YES ... Black dresses are awesome. As others have said, this is elegant and very tasteful. I don`t go with people who say black is not for weddings.
And cala lillies... So dramatic.

I got married last summer on the beach in Vancouver. We all wore black, including me! I wore a black cocktail dress! There are no rules these days as far as weddings go. Do what you want to do, because you`ll always wonder if you don`t! GO FOR IT, and know that you won`t look like EVERYBODY ELSE!!

Black is a great choice. If the dresses are long and simple, they won`t date your pictures. How many people look back and cringe because they chose that style/color?

I was wondering the same thing about having my bridesmaids wear long, black, chiffon dresses. Some of them are very keen on that, others seem to not care. I really like the colour lavender too. I have 6 bridesmaids and two juniors! This might be a lot of any colour!?? I may have the older bridesmaides in black and the two younger in lavender. I have not decided on flowers. Any suggestions other than calla-lillies? I am also wondering how the photos turn out with so much black?? PS: My wedding is next June.

I think black is good, i would add some colour with shawls or different coloured flowers though. Imagine a brightly coloured flower infront of the stark black dress, it would be so dramatic. Some flowers i would suggest other than calla lilies would be oriental lilies, asiatic lilies, roses, hydrangeas, lilacs, sunflowers, daisies (shasta are gorgeous). Hope this helps.

I think black works all year round. But I would only do black for an evening wedding. I don`t think it would look right for a morning or afternoon wedding.

So, black chiffon wouldn`t be right for a 2:30pm wedding in Ontario? I`m really stuck. It`s either black or lilac! The girls look great in both, but black is so practical! Thanks for everyone`s help. I love this message board!

I personally wouldn`t do black chiffon in the afternoon, but that is strictly my own personal opinion. I`m definitely no fashion expert or anything.

Black is over-done and boring for bridesmaids dresses. It does NOT look good on most women. Little black dresses just fade into the background. Bridesmade are supposed to be a bevy of youth, beauty, and happiness. Black is just old and bland and depressing.
