Excluding Spouses

Is it improper to address an invitation to a married couple in the name of only one spouse? For example:

John Jones and not Mr and Mrs. John Jones.

I am offended when an invitation is addressed to my spouse and excludes me. Should I be or am I overly sensitive? I understand that some showers and bachelor parties may be intended for one person, but I mean weddings, adult birthday parties, graduations, etc..)
