Barn Wedding Suggestions
Hi! I am getting married August 17, 2002. My fiance and I are both farm kids and we thought that it would be very fitting for us to get married in a barn. We are still in college and are on a tight budget but really want a nice wedding. We just need some suggestions for decorating the wedding and reception areas, favors, bridesmaids dresses and outfits for the groomsmen. We may go with traditional dresses and tuxes but if anyone has other suggestions that would be great. Thanks for your help and Congrats to all of the soon-to-be brides!

P.S. This is not going to be a western theme wedding. Any ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

We are having a Barn Wedding reception in March 2002. I would love to hear replys to this question. Our plans to date are to use lots of white lights and toole with fabric and bows. The menu is southern elegance.
We purchased alighted white arch for 15.00 at Michaels Craft Store to use around the cake table.
We would love to hear other ideas.

I am also planning a barn wedding. We are planning shish kabobs. What kind of food do you mean by southern elegance. We are planning on using lots of chinese lanterns. Are ideas on where to find them cheap?

By Southern Elegance we are having buffet stations. One is Crab Cakes with red rice, one is pork loin with bow tie pasta in a cajun cream sauce green beans almondine and a safe station of beef for those who don`t care for the other. The tables of fruit and food stations will be elegant as if in a formal setting. We have round tables with to the floor tablecloths but are using small oval galvinized tins filled with beeding plants as centerpieces that we can use in our lawn after the wedding. We are putting the wedding cake in a bird bath with lemons floating at the base.
We are lining the beams with whit lights and netting.
Good luck.

Hi, I too want to have a barn wedding. I went to a place in PA called The Barn at Birchwood. (web site:www.barnatbirchwood.com) If anyone has other barn places in NJ or PA that are good and not expesive, please let me know. For the cake in the bird bath, I tink that is great!!! Good luck to all.

Our 3/16/02 barn wedding reception did not work out. The owner of the barn put horses in the stalls 2 weeks before the wedding and they were still there 5 days before the wedding and when we went out to check it out - the smell was horrible. He had committed that the barn would not be used for horses after Feb 8th. But did not honor the committment We were sick but determined to still provide a reception we could be proud of!
We pitched a beautiful tent in our front lawn, put toole everywhere. Friends pitched in and put tea lights in mason jars all over the place, the rental company built a dance floor(there wasn`t one available in our area for rent). Our wedding coordinator`s husband placed lights in all the trees. It turned out to be a beautiful event with comments from our guests like, this is the best wedding reception I have ever been to!
The cake in the bird bath was fabulous!
When plans fail, it may be for the best. Don`t stress! Ask fo help and enjoy!

Well thank god my mama has nothing to do with my barn wedding or my Yankee-fiancee`s definition of Southern Elegance. Southern Elegance, food-wise honey, and bless your lil` ol heart while we`re at it, don`t have nuthin to do with bow-tie pasta. Think Blue Grass, your sister`s Ambrosia Salad and a pig in the ground. Comin` at you from Brooklyn, via the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Oh please. There`s nothing elegant about ambrosia and a pig roast. Fun and delicious - you betcha! But it doesn`t fall under the category of southern elegance. Southern elegant cooking is much more gourmet than what you have in mind, and most certainly can incorporate pasta into certain dishes. Enjoy your pig roast though!
