Dear Maggie,

I couldn`t agree with you more about the correspondence schools. It is very important to have a mentor. Someone you can ask questions of and who will give you help right when you need it. I get a lot of email from people who have paid large amounts of money for these courses only to find out that that no one will help them when they need it. Some of the companies are get selling a product. They are not Bridal Consultants and can`t help you.

Some of the personalities traits that help with this business are:

1. Being self-motivated

2. Being able to work comfortably on your own

3 Having the ability to set goals and stay motivated to complete them

4. Being highly motivated to achieve

5. Having the ability to manage money well and budget your expenses. Being willing to save money and spend it to start your business.

6. Being willing to work hard and giving up Saturdays to spend at weddings.

7. Believing in your ability to succeed.

8. Being willing to put time into making business contacts

9. Having a willingness to sincerely help others. A consultant`s primary function is to help a couple have a successful wedding. It is definately a "people" business. If money and wealth is your only objective in your Bridal consulting business, you will probably fail miserably. Wealth is secondary to helping others. If you do a good job by helping others, the money will come.

Bridal Consulting is a business that you can do anywhere but the return you get is directly proportional to the effort you put in. Your income depends on how hard you work and the business climate of the area you live in. No matter what type of home business you start, you will need to invest some amount of money. To start this business you will need business cards, letterhead, and some money for advertising. As far as advertising is concerned, of course the best way is "word of mouth". Other ways include the telephone book, newspapers, bridal shows, radio, and magnetic signs.

Being a Bridal Consultant is not a get rich quick kind of business. It takes a working knowledge of your area`s wedding vendors, the ability to make wise suggestions and a definite amount of persistence. I would not recommend that anyone quit their full time job to start a Bridal Consulting business but it is something that you can get started on a part time basis.
