Best Woman Instead Of Best Man
My fiance has asked his sister to be his best "person". I am not sure what she would wear. Would she wear the same thing as my maid of honor or would she be better off wearing a black dress since she will also be standing up with 2 groomsmen? The wedding is in July of 2002. HELP!

I don`t think the "best person" should match the maid of honor, because it would look like you have two maids of honor. I don`t think she has to wear black, either, however; maybe she could wear the cumberbund color if that color is not black. Her dress might be in a different style than the bridesmaid dresses, maybe sleeker, simpler, longer.

I think it`s a great idea for her to wear black. Plus she`ll probably love it that she`ll be able to get more wear out of her dress in the future. Even black and white would be nice. Being a wedding photographer, I like the idea of the grooms side being congruent color wise. This way you, the bride will stand out more in the photos. If she is wearing a color next to all the black tuxs your eye will gravitate towards her in the photos.

My fiance did the same thing. I plan to dress her in a black dress with a lace jacket over it. That way she can wear a nice coursage and not carry a bouquet. That way when friends look at the photos, they will say "Is his best man a woman?" rather than "where is the best man"

I was the "best person" in a wedding recently. The groom had me pick out any dress I wanted in black. It looked very nice. By the end of the night I was wearing one of the groomsmen`s tuxedo jacket and I actually wish I had rented one myself. It looked very nice with my black dress. The only downside was planning the bachelor party, ugggh. I was relieved when they decided they wanted a coed prewedding party. Good Luck!

I`m the Best Woman in my best friend`s wedding in October 2003. I`m wearing a black and ivory dress (the bride`s dress is ivory). The dress is a halter style with a collar - I can`t tell you how many people have told me "it looks just like a tux". My biggest fear is the toast!!! How does a woman talk about her best friend and not cry!

Thanks for the messages. My wedding was July 6. The best woman was listed in the program as best person. She ended up wearing a black strappless gown (that she picked out). I told her to just find something black without sleeves. It looked great. I had her carry two off white roses with an off white bow. I don`t really like wrist corsages ... It looked great. The only thing was that I forgot to tell our organist that she was in the wedding and when she came out with along with my husband, she thought she was the maid of honor and and began to play here comes the bride as my sister (the maid of honor and the only one on my side) walked down the aisle!! She had to walk very quickly down the isle...oh well. The best person did a great toast and yes she cried, but it was the best toast I had ever heard!

My female first cousin was "Best Woman" or, if you prefer, "Best Person" in my wedding. Since bridesmaids dresses are available in a wide variety of colors, we simply had her get the same dress the bridesmaids were wearing, but in black. That way she fit with the other female honor attendants and also matched the groomsman. Looked great in the pictures too.
