Small Weddings
My son is getting married in November. He is having a small wedding with only the immediate family. I would like to do something in the line of a wedding shower before the wedding, or a party after the wedding when they return from their honeymoon. Do you have any suggestions on what might be appropriate? We have a large family and it is not possible to invite everyone to the wedding but I would like everyone in our family to meet the bride.

I would opt to having an "open house reception" for them after they return from their honeymoon. Maybe a Sunday afternoon or a Friday evening. That way the "open house" allows people to come and go as they please. It also allows the family time to sit down and mingle with the new couple, especially since they have not met the bride previously.

I completely agree with everyone else, an after party would be a wonderful idea. I would, however, caution against the idea of inviting those who are not invited to the wedding to a wedding shower, that is bad ettiquette (if i spelled that right), simply b/c it looks more like you want gifts rather than you simply want to celebrate with the others. Now, if those other friends and family who are not invited to the wedding decide to throw a shower for them, that is okay, but a pre-wedding shower for non-invited guests has to be initiated and put together by those guests. Anyway, I`d go with the after party, I know a lot of people who have done that and it always turns out great.
