I recommend going to Zales, checking out what they have that you like, get your info on the diamond quality, the 3 C`s. Ask the sales people directly about sales and ask for the person`s card. They are more likely to get a sale if they are good and informative, because they do work on commission, a cheaper commission is better than none.

But I personally recommend against a chain store. Because of their overhead in malls and shopping centers, their advertising costs for print and tv, you will pay more for a lower quality diamond form a chain store.

My husband went to a local guy who has been in business in the same little store for over 50 years. He picked out the center stone first, flawless, and then picked the setting next, highest quality platinum (95%). The ring total with tax was over $500 cheaper than at chain stores, for a higher quality. After he purchased my set, he went back to the mall and had them quote a price for what he had purchased. For his price, they offered him a smaller, lower quality center stone, and less pure platinum.

Do your shopping first before you buy. You want this ring to last a lifetime. Check out the BBB for all of the complaints about quality from a chain store.

I also recommend going to a local reputable jewelry store. They cater to the local public, rely on word of mouth, and this keeps advertising costs to a minimum, and product prices DOWN. Furthermore, they do not have to answer to a corporation, and are a bit more flexible in pricing, products, and servicing. Good luck and best wishes!

Definitely go with a local jeweler. I live in Philly and went to Jewler`s Row. I thought they`d be way over priced but they were about 10 to 20% less then Zales, Litmans and Robins. It`s worth the trip.
