CORPORATE SPECIAL EVENT PLANNER

Hi,
I live in Mpls, MN and I would like to plan Special Events for a company/corporation (for example: Best Buy, Target, Carlson Companies, Carmichael Lynch, Fallon). Does anyone have any advise for me on how to get "in"? From what I have learned in informational interviews, it is very difficult get in the events department at a company/corporation, and those select view that are "in" stay "in" for a number of years
