How about having your son dress up like a mobster and take his picture and have it made into a life size cutout of him? You can use that next to the sign-in board or at the entrance of your reception.

Partypop has a catagory that IS "life-size cut-outs". You can probably find what you're looking for there and many of those types of vendors will ship things out so they need not necessarily be in your area. I hope that helps.
