Deprovera/Fertility

I am 38 years old, mother of 5 children--all pregnancies were somewhat unplanned. My husband and I are now trying to get pregnant. I was on the deprovera shot for about a year (took 3 injections, last one was taken beginning of February 2004) and although they say not to worry untill after at least a year, still I am concerned b/c conception hasn`t happened despite 4 solid months of trying. Am not getting any younger, periods have returned and seem normal so am wondering what other info is out there concerning this method of birth control and future infertility. Am not really discussing my plans with my doctor b/c I don`t truly trust him (not good, but with doctor shortages and such am kind of stuck with what I have). Wondering if anyone has information, sites, links or anything that might give me more conrete information rather than just the depro company site saying its a-ok.

I believe there are home fertility tests on the market that help you find out when you`re most fertile during your cycle. Also, if you don`t trust your doctor, try a Planned Parenthood branch. At the very least they can advise you about when you can be fertile again after stopping your injections. They are really affordable too. You can find a clinic at PlannedParenthood.org

The "wait at least a year" would apply if you were still in your twenties, at your age you may have already run out of luck. There is a big lie out there that you can put off child-bearing as long as you want while you earn a Phd and climb a corporate ladder. It doesn`t work that way. I still have regular periods, haven`t used birth control for 15 years during which I had one pregancy, 9 years ago, which ended in miscarriage. We older women need to get the truth out.
