Wedding Invitations

My mother is upset that her new daughter-in-law to be put on the invitations "Mr. And Mrs. Robert Anderson" instead of including her first name as well as her husband. Is my mother wrong for being upset or is it perfectly fine to have put my dads name only? After all, these are modern times and the mother of the groom should be recognized right?

Your future sister in law worded her invitation exactly the way the etiquette books say to word it. If she put both first names one is to assume that they are not MR & MRS.
You mother should be happy that she included their names at all. Not all invitations include the names of the grooms parents.
Tell your mother to pick her battles carefully and to communicate with her future daughter in law any wishes she may have way before decisions are to be made, then respect the decisions once they are made.
