I am in the same boat as you, however, I`m getting married in a month so am a little ahead of you. Here`s how I started, although I won`t say it`s the best way: First, in my browser I typed in the name of the city where I wanted to get married, along with the words wedding chapel. I found a little wedding chapel that does nothing but weddings, complete with the officiant and decorations for $500. Then yesterday, I contacted a local restaurant that our family enjoys, that comes complete with an area for a dance floor and has a bar, and spoke with them about having a reception there. The cost for 100 guests is only about $2,000. I went to Davids Bridal and got my dress during one of their many sales, for $99. (With veil, tiara and slip, totals about $180)We also have to get 2 bridesmaids dresses as the bridesmaids are my future step-daughters, both minors. I will also get those on sale for approximately $99. After some suggestions for other people, I am buying bird seed and netting with some ribbon to make the little things people can throw at us (ha ha). I am also going to buy some long stemmed flowers, in season, and some floral tape to make my own bouquet. Boutenierres (sp?) are relatively cheap and I am getting my cake from a local grocery store that surprisingly enough, does great work. The cake is $200. My neighbor is a DJ and has offered his services for free and a friend of my future step-daughter takes wonderful pictures and will also do it for free. You can buy disposable cameras and put them on all of the tables at your reception and have guests take the photos and leave the cameras for you when they leave. I hope this helps you get started. Good luck.

My friend got married with a buget of $5000 Canadian, and I did the whole thing. Try and find a place that is already beautiful, that way you don`t have to decorate. Ask them if tables, chairs, linens etc. Are included, that will help. Also you might want to try using fake flowers. When doing her wedding I thought "fake flowers? tacky!" But I was so surprised at the selection of flower you can get and the quality is very nice. Try to use bigger blomms too, then you don`t need as many. You can have a fake cake from styrofaom and get a friend or go to a bakery and get it iced, you can have a slab cake in the bake and no one will know! You can make you own wedding invitations on Word on the computer. My sister in law got married in June. Her and her husband are lawyers so they had a big budget. Her invitations looked just like the one I had designed. The only difference, her`s were WAY more expensive. I hope this can help!
