Average Price For DJ`s?

Could anyone tell me the going rate for wedding (ceremony &v reception) DJ`s these days. I had originally budgeted $1000 for this, thinking it would be plenty, but after talking to a few DJ`s in my area (Southern California), it seems I need much much more. How much should I expect to pay for about 6 hours?
Thanks for any advice!!

I live in South Florida and I`m paying $495 for 4 hours for a daytime Saturday wedding. I would think $1000 would be plenty unless I am wrong.

As I`ve been looking I`ve noticed quite a price range from about $500-$1000+. There`s no reason you should spend any more than $1000, I would keep looking, you`re bound to find someone who will be just as good and do it for less. If you`re having a hard time finding people, you could try calling local schools and asking for names of DJ`s they`ve used for dances and such. Good Luck.

Makes me glad I live in a smaller town. I live in Ohio and the highest price I found for DJs was $500. But I lucked out by getting a cousin that DJs professionaly for $250.

I live in So. Cal and I am paying 1000 for a DJ. They are a reputable company, referred to me by a friend who had 2 friends use the company. She used them in her wedding too, so that is 3 satisfied customers. They were also recommended by my videographer. It is 895 for 4 hours, and another 100 more per hour, so for a planned 6 hours, it would be 1095. I would recommend them here, but I think you get in trouble for that. Let me know if you want the info. They are based in the Burbank area. I don`t know where in socal you are.

We are based in Maryland servicing the Washington, D.C. And Baltimore areas, and our standard Wedding rates start at $650.00 for a 4 hour reception on a Saturday date, and $525 on a Sunday date. However, we offer early booking discounts to clients who book 3+ months in advance. Most of our weddings work out to be between $500 and $800 for 4 hours, and $850 to $1100 for a 6 hour reception. The higher priced weddings typically are due to the clients wanting an extended Lighting set up, or additional speakers for the ceremony or cocktail hour in a seperate location. Our price has only gone outside of $1100 on a few rare occasions where the wedding had a very large number of guests, and wanted DJ services for over 6 hours of music.

Most djs charge about $100-$200 for parties. If you are paying for a club dj then you are looking more towards $500-$1000
