I have heard of a company that plants trees in memory of major life events (birth, death, marriage). I don't know what the company is called or where they are located.

Why don't you try www.treegivers.com it is a website where a tree can be planted in any state as a memorial, for a departed loved one (human or animal) as well as to mark an event such as a marriage, birth etc.
