You indicated you are hispanic but not from what latin country. As you know, it changes from place
To place so i will try to mention as many countries as i can think of; even though, you can always still
From each. Here goes:
You can serve food from your country during the reception and have a specialty drink. For example, if
You are cuban (my roots) you can serve mojitos a well know cuban specialty drink . For cuban drinks
And recipes you can go to www.icuban.com. There are tons of websites listing foods from mexico,
Puerto rico, brazil, colombia, nicaragua, etc. If you live in area with no latin foods you can order them
From www.latingrocer.com or www.latinfoodmarket.com. If you're from chile you can serve wine from
Chile, from argentina a parillada with all types of beef, churrasco from nicaragua, from peru some
Ceviche or other dish. Instead of serving a meal with only latin foods, i would serve it only at the
Reception or for dessert. Puertorican pastel and colombian empanadas are great. For dessert you
Can serve flan, crema catalana, alfajores, etc. Go to http://www.latinsynergy.org/tm6.htm for more
Listings. And to top it all off skip the weak american coffee and serve cafe (cubano, colombiano,
Brazilero, costa rican, etc.).
The only traditions i know are for the ceremony. In certain countries the bride and groom are wrapped
With a large rosary and in others with a mantilla. Coins are also blessed. I don't recall the tradition very
Well but you might be able to find it online. At my friends wedding there was a venezuelan tradition where
A small bell like ornament made from lace was hung above the entrance to the room and the bride and
Groom would pull a string and pedals would fall around them. I have no idea what that means.
In certain latin countries (argentina is one) it is not the custom to have a bridal party. Just the maidhonor
And bestman.
For music you can play new age music fro mecuador, peru, etc. During the reception or music by raul di
Blasio (piano), ernesto lecuona (piano), boleros by luis miguel or los panchos. You can play some salsa,
Merengue, cumbia, samba or carnival music to get all the guests dancing. If the crowd is older you might
Want to start with some older music like chachacha, mambo, rumba, etc. From perez prado, matamoros,
La sonora mtanzera, or even some older music by celia cruz. Before the end of the night, you may want to
Have a mariachi come in and play a few songs. Go all out with this and make sure you get more than five
Because sometimes they only have a few and it sounds so-so. Another idea for the reception could be a
Guitar trio playing love songs or a flamenco guitarist that plays like ottmar + leibert.
I can't think of many more but if you look up the country of your parents (grandparents) you may find some
Information. Try to go into yahoo espanol, yahoo mexico, etc. To see what you can find.
Good luck!

I am an Anglo-American women with a son marrying a woman from Mexico. I`ve been informed that the grooms family is in charge of much of the planning and cost of the wedding (i.e., brides` dress, reception, flowers, etc..), but also that many friends and family of the bride will contribute such things as cake, flowers, etc.. I`m looking for some guidelines on what is appropriate as far as planning of both wedding and reception. I`d like it to be a mix of both Anglo-American and South American. I`m challenged with not being able to communicate well with the bride`s family to determine who is taking care of what, and how to ensure what others may be doing is executed. The bride and groom unfortunately I don`t think realize all of the planning that goes into this!

Hi Everyone. I just started a new website called www.hispanicwedding.com. Although, you can buy items, it is still under construction. I am looking for someone to write for my website. I need to add information on a traditional hispanic wedding from various latino backgrounds, mexican, cuban, prican, etc. I am willing to pay $25 for anyone who can help. If interested, you can contact me at hispanicwedding@yahoo.com
