Wedding Centerpieces

One thing I'm thinking about is using candles as centerpieces at the reception. They're spiritual, romantic, and less expensive than flowers! I think I'll save a two hundred dollars at least. I also love the way people look in candlelight, so it should make the pictures look great, too! What do you think?

I think that is a great idea. I have always wanted to do that, but my fiance and I have decided with an a.m. Wedding and an outdoor reception, so that won't work for me. So, I was thinking about having little glass bowls with a few blossoms, (violets are one of my wedding flowers so I guess I'll use those) and float them in water. What do you think? Good luck with your candles, sounds beautiful.

Candles are a beautiful idea, we are using them as well. One thing you could do to add interest is arrange candlesticks of varying heights on each table. Whatever you choose, i definitely recommend using either floating candles or mirrors underneath your candles, especially if the other lighting in the room will be dim. The water and mirrors will reflect the candlelight back up, doubling the brightening power.
One note of caution: make sure your reception photographer and videographer are aware of the dim lighting they'll have to work with.

I bought beautiful vases for a 50th annie. I decorated with strings of pearls, bows, ribbons, They looked fabulous. Everyone wanted one! I used gold candles floating in them. It costs me app. $25.00 for each one. However, you certainaly could use more inexpensive vases.Igot mine at RobinsonsMay on sale! Then I went to Michaels Crafts and also Alin Party supplies and got all the material I needed. You do need to use a hot glue gun also. I had so much fun making them. I didn't realize what a big hit they were!

I bought white 3X10 in pillars after Christmas for $1.50 a piece. I'm going to put these in large hurricane globes on mirrors, decorated with greenery and flowers to match my colors. The mirrors are free at the hall we rented, and the globes and foliage will be $2.50 a piece to rent. So, my centerpieces will be elegant and inexpensive at about $4 a piece (maybe not horribly original, but I like them!! : ) ) I highly recommend checking with vendors to find out what stuff they have available. We're also getting eight 4 foot lighted plants at the reception hall---for free!!! Ask, ask, ask, and shop, shop, shop!! It's saved us a ton of money so far.

That would be great! At my wedding we couldn't have open flame, so I used oil lamps with colored oil in my wedding colors. The candles light everything beautifully. You'll love it!

Take 3 8x10 picture frames, put them in a triangle shape with pictures of the bride and groom taken while they were dateing....family...kids...so on.....place them on a 14" mirror and spread rose peddles arround on the mirror and the table....you can now take 3 candles and place then at 3 dif levels coming out of the triangle made by the frames with 1 single rose to tie in the peddles.....cheap..easy....looks great and the guest will love them....Good Luck

Oh, my gosh! To the person who had the idea of the
Candles in the hurricane lamps with greenery on the
Mirror tiles-I HAD THE EXACT SAME IDEA!!!!!Wow!
I won't be doing that now, because the caterer I am
Using for my wedding is supplying the decorations.
One thing I was going to add was to sprinkle glitter-
Silver or gold 'glitters' the best!-on the greenery & the
Table. Not a ton, just enough to make it glitter when you
Lite the candles. When you lite the candles-wow!
Use fat candles, though! They'll burn all night long!
As for the various heights of candles for the tables, I
Wouldn't have the tapers, someone could knock them over! Also, the guests need to see each other at the table without having things in their way. Sounds very
Beautiful, though!
Good Luck,
Princess

Someone please help! I am having an evening wedding in June and I have absolutely no ideas for my table centerpieces. The reception hall is providing us with hurricane lamps, but I don`t know what to put around them. I wanted something different, but I`ve looked everywhere, and NO LUCK! If anyone has any ideas, I would love some help. Thanks

Hello Lost in Maryland,
Purples are some of my favorite colors for weddings..:) Hmm lets see which ones to post for center pieces..:) Any thing I post you can change with different flowers or by adding or taking something away. :)
One would be a fruit and flower topiary. Since you are doing plum and lavendar, you could use real plums. The pot could be a terra cotta pot sprayed a solid color or multi colors. Using flowers like freesia, iris, roses, mini carnations. Or you could go more with different greens and a few flowers.
Another one would use pillar candles or just one pillar candle. I found that the 6 inch ones are big enough and last way past the reception time. You could use white, lavendar or plum color for the pillar. Then there is several ways to decorate around the base. Doing a floral ring with a fresh oasis ring works great for keeping both the greens and flowers from looking droopy. Dark greens like mini pit or pit, ivy, italian rucus, leather leaf and plumosa. Or even adding a little bit of the varigated greens. With the rings you can add alot of flowers or just a few to make an elegant statement. Or instead of the floral ring, you could simply take rose petals and make a ring around the candle. Adding ivy or plumosa coming out from underneth the petals gives a nice touch. Adding votive candles around the outside give more of the candle light glow.
Another is a vased arrangement in the center of the table. It does not have to be anything grand. A vase full of a single kind of flower is very nice looking. You can do either the tall vases or the shorter vased arrangements. Like a vase with calla lilies or roses. They can be "bonging" out of the vase or more tight and closer to the lip of the vase, some more the lines of what Martha Stewart does.
Heck, I could go on and on and on some more with different things you could do for center pieces. I love to do custom work for people. Working with flowers is more relaxing for me than stressful. Even doing flowers for weddings..:)
If you would like email me
I would love to hear more about what you are looking for. I can also get you a list of flowers that fall in the lavendar and plum shades. Or explain more on anything that I have posted here. :)

Hi Lost in Maryland.

We are using hurricane lamps as well. We are putting candles inside, placing a few votive candles around it, and then sprinkling a few rose petals around the table. Very simple, very cheap but beautiful just the same.

I am having square mirrors on the middle of the tables with champagne glasses, wine glasses, martini glasses, and shot glasses made into ivory candles with burnt orange rose petals around the base of the glasses.
I got the glasses wholesale off of ebay and my friend makes candles. So it will cost me around 1.00 a candle.

FABULOUS CENTER PIECE IDEA!!!
I was checking on center pieces with the ladies I work with, and one suggested what her son did- They froze flowers fake or real in ice and had a white snap stick in the center for light.

I didn`t understand at first but take say, a fairly tall plastic bowl or something similar-start with a half inch filled with water-stick (place a circular object in the center to keep it hollow) in a flower or two and let freeze add more water and place more flowers inside and freeze again-continue until your bowl is full. And those halloween glow sticks-the white light kind-snap and put in hollow part of ice.
And viola beautiful almost ice sculptures for your table- remember that they melt and you will need something to catch melting water.
I myself am going to try this with a pillar candle in the middle, the same heighth as my ice. This way the ice will melt with the candle.
