Buttercream And Fondant

How do you decorate with buttercream and,
Also with fondant at the same time....
It seams that the fondant would be to heavy on the buttercream...

Our cake is going to have very smooth buttercream with fondant on top. Our baker is making it, so I`m not sure exactly how it is done.
