Large Size Bride Needs Help!
I hope that perhaps someone out there might have some advice for me. I am no spring chicken, 40 yrs old, a widow who has gotten a second chance at love. We are getting married on October 16th, less then 3 months away and I need help finding a dress. I am a size 22/24 and I am at a loss. I don`t want anything fancy and sleeves are a must for me, even if short sleeves. I was planning on looking at David`s in the San Francisco area, but after reading on your site, I am really scared. Does anyone out there have any suggestions or ideas for me? I would so appreciate any help I can get! Thanks so much.

Like you mentioned David`s Bridal has dresses in plus sizes.....but also like you said they have TERRIBLE customer service.
However, since you only have three months you might be able to find something of the rack that fits or could be altered to fit (by someone else besides DB)
Or you could find the dress you want at DB then look into buying it off the net...like off this board..
Also Alfred Angelo carried plus sized gowns.
Also if you find a picture of the gown you want try going to a seamstress and see if they can make a replica of the gown. This might even be better for you, that way if you see the perfect gown, but it`s sleeveless a seamstress could easily make the gown but with sleeves or if you see things you like on several different gowns you can pick and choose what you want on yours....your own custom wedding gown.
Hope this helps.

Hi Monica - David`s is "an experience" but if you want to try some styles to see what you like it can work out fine for that. Don`t go on a weekend like I did. FYI You might think you only have an hour but it seemed like anyone could stay all day if they liked. I didn`t buy anything there but I did find a couple "contingency" styles I could fall back on in case of "disaster" in my long distance wedding. Most of their gowns are come in all sizes. If you do buy something you like off the rack my 2 cents is - don`t special order there, leave the shop with your gown in your hands and get it fitted by someone with proven skills who can take good care of you - in the SF area maybe you can find an established pageant gown seamstress or similar - these people can`t stay in business if their customers gowns look bad, fit poorly or fall apart - they also rely on repeat customers and David`s probably doesn`t! You could also talk to the seamstress about making a gown for you. Also - Ballroom dance dressmakers are lesser known alternative guaranteed to make you something flattering and easy to dance in, but those gowns can be spendy. Try to have some fun with it and you will do great! Keep us updated :) k

Hello!
I understand your pain. :) I am actually very impressed with David`s bridal... They have a new Women`s line where the sizes won`t scare you! I am a size 12 and had to buy a size 14 dress... But- they have new 14W that adds an extra 3 inches all around... That is so wonderful.... It`s a shame how formal dresses run so small.... Noone wants to walk out of the store wearing a size larger than they already do... Good luck! :)
