Where Do Larger-Sized Women Get Dresses?
Please help. The only place where I`ve been able to try on dresses is David`s Bridal. Even there only some dresses fit in size 26w. I really love the way the 95161 (strapless with jacket) fits, but when I went to another store to show my maid of honor, the same size wouldn`t zip! I`m really getting frustated and don`t have 700 to pay for a dress!!!

I went to David`s as well, but was very unhappy with the service and quality of their dresses. I took the style that looked the best on me from David`s and shopped around online. I ended up finding the dress of my dreams by Alfred Angelo and ordered online. It was perfect. Do a web search for plus size bridal, plus size gowns and so on until you find what you are looking for.

We make custom made dresses tailored to your own measurements, and we also carry a style where the gown comes with a matching long jacket/coat over it.

I have several suggestions....
#1-Find the dress you want and take a picture, preferably front and back, to a seamstress who can make a replica of the gown.
#2-preownedweddingdresses.com-Brides sell their used or never-worn dresses. It`s categorized according to size.
#3-Ebay. You can find all different sizes and style for great prices.

Oh, one more thing. Might I suggest that you look for something in a wrap style with a corset-style lace-up back, such as a Maggie Sottero. They are very flattering. The corset-style lace up back is very slimming and creates a smaller waist and the wrap style creates an optical illusion, hiding problem areas such as a large tummy. This I`ve found from my own experience. I would also suggest avoiding something with too much lace, ebroidery, or beading as that often has the opposite effect than intended. I`ve found that a lot of designers are afraid of designing for the larger woman and mistakenly create large patterns or add more embroidery/lace/beading to "cover-up" and i guess they think it will camaflouge one`s large-ness by drawing the eye onto the details, but it often has the opposite effect making the woman look much larger than she actually is. I`ve also found a trend of trying to cover up arms with large sleeves which often make the arms look bigger, a cap sleeve does a much better job at creating the illusion of a slimmer arm than a regular short sleeve and it`s so much more elegant. Anyway, those are just my two cents from my own experience. I wish you the best of luck and i`m sure you will find a dress that is just perfect for you and that you will look absolutely beautiful on your wedding day. Oh, in case partypop deletes my first post b/c it has a website that`s not an affiliate, here`s my e-mail so you can just email me directly and i`ll send you the link: tracijenae@hotmail.com

Be careful here, Ladies. This board has been much more strict on removing non advertiser web addresses and suspending those who list them. I have been suspended 2x in the last 5 days just for trying to hlp someone find an item.
But the last few suggestions have been great. There are affordable dresses here. Good luck

Excited Bride,
Thanks for the heads up.
Oh, my last post at the end seems cryptic, the site i was referring to is a legit website that caters to the plus size bride and also has a return policy so that if you get the dress and it turns out not to be everything you dreamed you can exchange for a different dress, which is a pretty good deal on the internet. Just google plus size bride and it will give you the site.

For plus size dresses I know you could by great dresses at Kasia`s Bridal. She carries size 1-32 and 16W - 28w. I bought a size 24 Mori Lee gown from her for half the price I was being told in a store in Madison. I`m in the process of getting my bridesmaids from her - all of them are plus sizes and she`s charging me $130 each! That was with the plus size charge!!! her email is kasia@kasiasbridal.com
I`m sure she`ll help you with whatever you need. She`s been nothing but helpful to us. Good luck!
