Unity Candle

I am planning on having a unity candle at our ceremony, however,I`ve only been to one wedding where a couple had a unity candle and the way they incorporated it into the ceremony was weird. It didn`t let the ceremony flow, it seemed out of place. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to incorporate this smoothly into the ceremony. And also with the song that is played when the unity candle is it, should the whole song be played??? It seems weird just standing there while a song plays. If you could please give me some ideas that would be great. Thanks.

I am so glad someone asked this question. I am having an outdoor ceremony and had no idea where or when to incorporate this part of it, or about the song.

Also does anyone have any ideas of an alternative to the candle lighting? Something other than the sand ceremony?

Usually the unity candle is done after the exchanging of rings.
They have tons of ideas for your ceremony. I bit and pieced my ceremony together using sample ceremonies from this site. I got tons of compliments on how beautiful the ceremony was.
