Birth Control
How soon before you`re going to have sex do you need to start taking the pill? I`ll be having sex for the first time on my wedding night. I`m not sure how long before the wedding I should make a doctor`s appt to get the pill. Thanks for the help!

I think it takes 3 months to become effective. But you should probably ask your doctor.

With most oral contraceptives, you start taking the medication on the Sunday following your period. After 7 days of being on the medication your body should have enough hormone level to trick your body into thinking it`s pregnant, thus not ovulating.
However, each different brand of oral contraceptive works differently and you should talk to your doctor about what one is right for you. Your physician may not want you to even use that form of birth control if you have hypertension or a history of blood clots.
There is no harm in contacting your primary physician immediately so that you can become comfortable with your chosen method of birth control well ahead of the wedding night.

NO just kidding... B/C takes two weeks to be safe. It says everthing on the packaging you get it with. If she starts a month before her wedding she should be fine. Be careful of gaining weight. NO matter what pill I took i gained weight, so I dont use them anymore.

I was told by doctor to start the pills one month before,
Cause you have to get used to pills... At the beggining they might make you sick...
You`ll gane waight only if you stop taking pills and then after couple month/some time start taking them again... (that`s what happened to me)

Most of the ones I read said that Sunday starters are safe after a week, but as others have pointed out, all are different. Your best bet would be to call and ask your doctor what they think would be best. As for the rather rude person with the comment about waiting till the wedding night...even if people do wait, not all people want a child 9 months after their wedding night. Sex is about more than procreation, its a celebration of the differences between a man and a woman joining together.

Everyone`s body is slightly different and may react differently to a form of birth control ("the pill", or other method.) See your doctor to discuss the possibilities most appropriate for you. However, for the pill specifically, it takes a good 2 cycles for your body to successfully stop ovulation and have no breakthrough bleeding. In addition, you need to start the pill the SUNDAY after the first day of your period so, you must schedule the appointment so that you can start the Sunday after the 1st day of your last period.
I would suggest going to the doctor sooner than later and they will provide you with the contraceptive and advise you when it`s time to start. Also, nobody wants their period during their wedding.
