I looked into renting a wedding dress, but the ones I saw weren`t that great and were nearly as expensive as buying them outright. If you are trying to save money, I suggest getting a prom or other evening wear-type dress. The secret is to match it with a really cool veil, and it will totally look like a real wedding dress. I got a discounted prom dress for $35 and a veil at a thrift store for $2, and no kidding, people said it was one of the prettiest bridal ourfits they`d ever seen. It was also a unique look which I liked. Many of the bridal dresses look pretty much the same to me.

Now for a small, personal tirade against the bridal industry: They make you feel like you MUST spend thousands of dollars to buy that dream dress or your whole wedding, nay maybe even marriage, will be tainted if you don`t. Well, don`t believe that for a second. They play on our insecurities to support their advertisers. These dresses are not worth a fraction of what they are selling for, and at the end of the day, you will be much happier if you have that money in your bank account rather than some dress that will be totally outdated in 5-10 years anyway.

I thought of that idea too, but when i looked into it, i only ever saw things for more than $100 and nothing that i liked. I actually bought a dress off of ebay for $100 and it is exactly what i wanted and absolutely beautiful. I would go ahead and look into the renting thing, but also look into other options such as ebay, prom dresses in white, bridesmaid dresses in white. Bari Jay makes some awesome bridesmaid dresses, some that have the same style as maggie sottero gowns as well as some other beautiful designs and most are available in white and run for under $160 if bought online (some as low as $120-130). I would google bari jay and look at their site, it`s cool you can click on the color white and see what the dress would look like in white, most of them look just like wedding gowns. I agree with the previous poster, we women need to band together and show this industry that we will not be taken advantage of. The only reason why they get away with it is b/c people let them by being willing to pay the rediculous marked up prices. I, for one, am unwilling and I hope others will also demonstrate their unwillingness by using other avenues to get what they need for their wedding.
