Christmas Party

I am holding a Christmas party/family reunion and am looking for some unique ideas. It is going to be strictly indoors (big hall) Having the family dinner from 5:30 to 7:00 and then we also invited all of our friends to join us at 7:00 to celebrate the rest of the evening. I am also trying to come up with some fun things for the kids. I know they must be happy in order for everyone else to enjoy themselves. If anyone has ANY ideas I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You,

Well this may seem an odd time to do this but at alot of our family Christmas parties my aunt would buy a pinata and fill it with toys and candies . All the kids would get a chance at breaking it.... Sometimes they put special tokens in some of the bags of candy and whoever got one went to a small table and selected a wrapped gift. Was alot of fun for kids.

Also...theres a game I've played at a family christmas party where you get to "steal" the gifts from each other. I don't recall the rules but maybe someone here knows...its ALOT of fun and really makes the gift exchange exciting.

Good Luck!

And Merry Christmas to you!~~~*

As I remeber on the steal the gifts game, it went like this, the first person that got to pick a gift got the choice of which wrapped gift they wanted. The second persons turn had the choice of taking the first persons gift that was opened or an unwrapped gift. Depending on how many people the gift can only be taken 3 times. Once the 4th person took that same gift that is who ended up with it. Now if the second person decided to take the first persons gift, that left the first person with the choice of the unwrapped gifts again. The third person then had the choice of the first, or second persons gift or the pile of wrapped gifts and so on. The way we figured out who was first second, third or whatever is to draw #s, then sit around a table or room in that order so it didnt get to confusing. This game is confusing enough because you have to keep count on how many times each gift was taken and on the 3rd time make sure that the person that took it last knows that is what they had to keep so they better have liked it. Also sometimes there is one gift that nobody wants, but it was the choice of the person when it was wrapped all nice and pretty, that is one of the consequences of the game, because nobody wants to steal it, so that person is stuck with it. Trust me I got stuck with this shark cookie jar that made noise everytime you went into it. It was cute, but very annoying, especially when I should have stolen the cappucino machine from someone else. Oh well life goes on. Hope this helps you out. It is a fun game, if you are confused a little by the rules let me know. Oh yeah you dont have to buy all the gifts, just let the parents know that each child must bring a gift that will fit a girl or a boy and not to have a name on it. That way you arent spending all the money and it makes it a little more fun and interesting. Kids also may make parents feel bad about buying certain presents, because I am sure children dont have the grace of not showing their dislikes about certain things. Great for adults, but not quite sure how it would work with kids, something really to think about before jumping right into it.
