GIFT BASKETS FOR OUT OF TOWN GUESTS
I am getting married on August 7,2004 and my fiance and I are paying for and planning the entire wedding. I have a problem deciding what to do for the gift baskets for our out of town guests. We are on a tight budget but I want to honor family and friend that have come in from another state to celebrate with us. My fiance has family comming that he has never met before. Any Suggestions???

Hi Julia,
I don`t think the gift baskets have to actually be "baskets"...try using cute bags, fill them with inexpensive, homemade goodies then fold the top down, punch a couple of holes and thread a wired ribbon through, tie a bow with a little WELCOME card and Voila!
For the "goodies" I would print up on the computer a list of sights, map to the ceremony, time frame for the festivities, then add some homemade brownies indivdually wrapped along with a couple little mini water bottles, some mints and there you go!

I like those ideas. We don`t have any out of towns coming that we know of yet (that COULD change....) but I`ll keep that in mind if we ever do something like this again. By the way, Julia...we`ll be sharing an anniversery! Ours is the 7th too, and its also my b-day lol.

Thanks Kady thats a great idea....... I thought of using gift bags also just so they dont feel obligated to take to basket home.
Congratulations Jorie....... And Happy Birthday!

I purchased gift bags in our colors and am filling with:
Bottle of water for each person in the room
Postcard of local landmark
Pencil of our local baseball team
Map of area
Small tin of mints
Granola bar for each person in the room
List of places to eat, things to do
Thank you note from fiance and myself
All in all, we`re spending LESS THAN a dollar a bag.

I know this is short notice for you at this point, but may help others. I used gift bags that I got from our local Visitor Center (the happened to be really cute). The Visitor Center provided a local map as well as information on local sites and some coupons for local restruarants. We are from an Atlanta suburb, so I also included small bottles of our local beverage (Coke), a bottle of a local wine along with two plastic wine glasses and a dollor store wine bottle opener. The hotel has a swimming pool, so I also went to a local dollar store and got inflatable beach balls. I finished it off with some peach candy, The unexpected part came when we found out various guest introduced themselves to each other at the pool after recognizing other guest with the same beach balls.
Whatever you put together will be appreciated.
