Name Changing
Can someone please tell me how to change my drivers license, social security card, and how to change my last name legally? I will be moving to a different state two days after my wedding and I"m not sure how to get everything changed before the move. If anyone could tell me what to do or what official people I can call, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Every state is different !
A good start would be to get a local phone book and look though it, some chamber of commerses and district sentors offices have that information for you for free or look up the area your moving to on the internet.
There are people who will try to sell this information to you but don`t fall for it !
With alittle bit of searching you can find it yourself.
Companies can`t change your name they can only provide you with information on how to do it for a fee and it`s all information you can find yourself for free.
Hope this helps!

First you need your actual wedding certificate (w/ the seal), in order to change your social #. You must change you social first because that is what all of the other places like your bank, DMV, employer, etc. Will refrence to. I would suggest going to the social security office in person because you will receive your new card back within 1-2 weeks rather than 1-2 months plus the information will be in the computer sooner. After your social security stuff is all set that is when you can change everything else no problem. Hope this helps, best of luck!

Hi Shannon. You don`t have to change your name right away if you don`t want to. FYI. I never changed mine after I got married. Too much hassle!

Well when we went to the courthouse toget our licenses, they gave me an envelope for the Social Security office and gave me all the info. I believe you have to get your SS# first before you can do anything else. You have to have that card to get your new licenses..I know you have to have your marriage licenses for that...But who knows..Good Luck!!

Hi
I live in upstate new york. I didn`t go the the ss office first, actually thats the last place i went to. I did need the marriage certificate at the dmv and the ss office, also changing my name on my bank account, they needed a copy of the marriage certificate.
Like someone said, it does vary with each state.
Call your town/city clerk if you don`t know and they can tell you.
