Rehearsal Dinner

This is really starting to frustrate me
I was just wondering what a few other brides intend on doing for their rehearsal dinner... It's about time for me to start planning my own.
One of my BM's had a very formal, sit-down, rehearsal dinner with salmon & filet mignon, white & red wine… the whole nine yards. I cannot afford anything like this, so I was interested in hearing about some of the more laid back dinners some of you had/have planned.

Leah,
How’s that for "quoted" text? It might not work within HTML tags though. :(

I haven’t gotten that far into planning....My wedding is really in the baby stages right now. I don’t have much money to count on so I can’t really plan too far ahead...But!
I have heard of people having in-house dinner parties where the food is basically "catered" or picked up from local restaurrants. You would think it would be more expensive but it isn’t because you are in control of what is chosen. In fact if you find the right restaurant then you may be able to get something very cool for a cheap price. How about something "themed" ---somehow that always seems to make up for lack of quantity or cost. I don’t know..,.. But in my humble opinion its not important how "fancy" it is (unless you have the cash and can go all out) but just the fact that you all get together and "relax" a little.
I will keep my eyes open for some ideas!

We are going to have a barbeque at the local park. Because our wedding is in May, and right before the official start of the summer season, the park is free, and it has a covered seating area.
Since there will be many out of town guests, the rehearsal dinner is open to all.
Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and soda for everyone.
Hope this helps!

Ooh, Sharon... That’s exactly what my Brother wants us to do. The only problem is that we are having a huge BBQ at our reception... My mom seems to think that we really shouldn’t do a BBQ for both. Thanks for the suggestion though!!!!

Leah---....Lol...Don’t blush! I was going to suggest something like that but didn’t know what ’budget’ you were working with. I think something like Pizza (or chinese.,,,,Thats always cheap for a ton of food) is a great idea. Plus its YOUR family and friends so comfort is the key element anyway: ) I think that if you have something more informal you let people relax and just have a good time ......
Oh! and yes....I think if you are having BBQ for the reception then I wouldn’t do that for the other dinner.

Another suggestion.
I am not sure how many people you are having, and that is always a concern. However, if you can have it at someone's house, why not cook a simple dinner of a salad, followed by baked chicken, rice and vegetables? And then a simple desert, like cheescake or cookies? Total preparation time for a meal like this should take about 30 minutes, tops!
I am not sure where you live, but in my area you can get that kind of stuff in bulk from a warehouse club, like Sam's or Cosco for a real good price.

Budget??? What budget? To have a budget you have to have MONEY *hahahahaha*
That's a great idea Sharon... Kinda a mini Thanksgiving ;) I'll have to bring that one up to my mom (since she'll be doing most the cooking *haha*)
