Poll: Ages Of Flower Girls/Ring Bearers
Hey everyone,
I`m indecisive and so I was hoping everyone could share their thoughts to help me make a decision. All of the weddings I`ve been to have had very young children as the flower girls and ring bearers, but my niece and nephew whom I love to death and want in my wedding are older and i`m trying to decide whether or not I would like them to take on those roles or to give them different roles such as junior brides maid or heck, even have the two walk me down the aisle. Anyway, Shyann will be 9 and Michael will be 11 1/2 at the time of my wedding. Although the two are almost 3 years apart shyann`s so big for her age that the two look like twins, so that`s another thing to consider. Would it be strange to have a girl who looks almost 12 as a flower girl? Anyway, if any of you out there could tell me the ages of the kids you`re having in your wedding and/or your thoughts on my situation I`d appreciate it. By the way, if I go for younger kids I`d have my cousin`s two kids who will be almost 2 and 4. Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi Tracey....My flower girl will be age four, and my ring bearer will be age 7. I originally wanted my f/g`s brother to be a ring bearer so they could walk down the aisle together. But, he will be age 10 at the time of the ceremony. In my opinion, this age is too old for the position of ring bearer. So, we decided to make him a junior groomsman. The ages of the children you mentioned would make them perfect for jr b/m and g/m. Flower girls and ring bearers are usually under the age of 8. But, then again, it is your ceremony! Do what makes you feel happy:) Hope this helps you out.....

Honestly I think that 9 & 11 1/2 are too old for F/G R/B.You could have your neice be a Jr. Bridesmaid and your nephew walk you down the asile. Or your nephew could be an usher handing out programs and seating people at church. My niece who is 12 and my nephew 10 are going to hand out our bubbles as guests exit the church and then when we get to the reception they will man the guest book table and ask everyone to sign our book and leave us a message. But if you truly want them as F/G & R/B do it. It is your wedding and nothing is written in stone. Good Luck and let us no your decision!

There`s also no law saying you HAVE to have a flower girl and/or ring bearer. If you`re not close to your cousin`s kids, you don`t have to include them just for the sake of having two dressed up little kids in the ceremony. Unless you really have your heart set on having a RB and FG, I think it would be fine for your nephew to be a junior groomsman, and maybe he could hold onto the rings, and for your niece to be a junior bridesmaid, and maybe have a slightly different boquet than the bridesmaids, like one of those kissing balls. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the input. You know, my thought was that they were too old, but (this is silly) one of the kids i work with who is 9 asked me if I was going to have my neice as the flower girl and I said no she`s too old, to which she replyed "too old! but jessie (her sister) and I might be the flower girls in our cousins wedding and i`m 9" so that made me start thinking and I asked my fiance and my mom and they didnt think that was too old, but i just kept thinking it was too old so i`m glad I`ve gotten other opinions. Thanks for all your input. I think I might go with the junior bridesmaid and junior groomsman idea. I just want them to feel important because they are very important to me, so much that my fiance was more worried about getting their approval and having them like him than my parents`. Anyway, thanks again for the input, it was very helpful.

My flowergirls will both be about 8 and 9. I know that some people may think that they are too old, but they are the ones I wanted for the job. My only other option would have been a two-year old, and to me that would have been too young and unpredictable. I know that my girls will do exactly what they are supposed to, so that will be one less worry for me. I also didn`t want my wedding filled with children, so I didn`t want to go with the junior bridesmaid thing.

We decided against a ring bearer as we didn`t know anyone old enough, or well enough behaved for the job. Our flower girl is my Maid of Honor`s daughter, and my favorite little girl and she is 8.

I have a question, My uncle is getting married and his future wife, who I really like... Asked me and my cousin to be her Jr. Bridesmaids! My cousin is going to be 11 and I will be 16. Is that to old to be a Jr. Bridesmaid. And how would I nicely say no?????

I have 3 neices whom I adore, and a wonderful nephew, whom I love to death, so this was a question for us too. What we decided on was this:
Bryce will be 10 - too old for a ringbearer, we thought so he is a junior groomsman
Maddison will be 6 - flowergirl
Kelsea will be 4 1/2 - flowergirl
Maija will be almost 3 (2 weeks later) - so we decided to make her the ringbearer. There is no rule that says the RB has to be a boy. This is something she is looking forward too!

I`m so glad you psoted that question. I`ll be getting married in a year, and I was wondering the same thing. My fiance has a young niece and nephew and we want them to be in the wedding, but I wasn`t sure about the positions. The little girl is currently five, but will be six at the time of the wedding. The boy will be eleven. I don`t want to offend either of them by suggesting a position which might be percieved as too young or childish for my future niece and nephew. I`ve read the reactions and I think I have a better idea now what sort of positions the two can play in the wedding.

I`m having my twin nieces (who will be 9 at the time of my wedding) as flower girls, and my nephew who is 6 as the ring bearer. I have an older niece who will be 11, and two younger nieces (4 and 2) and another nephew, who is a baby. I`d have the younger girls as flowergirls, except the 4-year-old is too shy and I don`t think the 2-year-old would understand what to do.

I don`t think the age of any wedding party member is as important as their maturity to handle their duties. It is your wedding, and you should do whatever you are comfortable with. I don`t think their is any set guidelines anymore, accept for good manners, respect and a kind heart. I think considering everyones feelings is the most important thing. Congrats! beccah

I have two flower girls in my wedding. One is four and the other is nine. I read somewhere that flower girls can be from the ages: 4-10 so I think she is fine. My ring bearer is 6. I read that ring bearers should be from the ages: 4-8 because younger boys are confused by the role. If the nine year old looks mature for her age, you can make her a junior bridesmaid.
