Reception Kissing
Hello!
I am trying to think of a new or unique idea for getting the bride and groom to kiss at the reception. I`ve been asking around but I keep getting the same ideas...clinking glasses, singing a song about love, setting up a golf putt or basketball hoop. I would love something new/unique/exciting that we could have our guests do.

The bride and groom kiss at the reception 1) right before or after cutting the cake, 2) after the toast, 3) after the first dance. So those are at least 3 times, also, they kiss many more times afterward as people ask them to pose. They could also do it for the first time entering the reception. That`s when lots of folk have cameras ready. Sometimes they will stop every few feet while entering the reception room and kiss for family and friends to get that photo, too. Also leaving the reception while rice is thrown, they can stop and kiss while bubble or flower petals shower them. There`s nothing that says they have to race to the limo without stopping. There are many times to get them to kiss, after all, the day is about romance.

I think the bride and groom should kiss each other, but not get too carried away with it. Like using tongues and stuff. None of that.

Hi again,
I agree with you`ve said about the kissing - thanks for the replies. However, the reason I posted the question before is because tradition has it that if guests "Clink" their glasses at the reception dinner, then the bride and groom have to kiss. I am hoping to sway from the norm and have an alternative idea to the clinking/tapping of the glasses - such as the singing of a love song by guests. Any ideas?
Thanks again for the notes written so far...very much appreciated!

Heidi, I have seen this on TV....Guests at the reception kiss each other in a crazy way, and the bride and groom have to mimick the exact same kiss. For example, if my fiance kissed me and then swung me over his shoulder, the groom would have to do the same to the bride. It sounds like fun to me:)

Even though this doesn`t have to do with the bride and groom kissing, the last wedding I went to, when peopole came into the recpetion you had to write your name and your date`s on a slip of paper. When guests started clinking their glasses the bride and groom picked a couple out of the basket and that couple had to kiss. It was such a fun idea!

Beth and Jen,
I love those ideas! These are the type things that I am looking for. A friend of mine`s son suggested that I get everyone to make the noise of an animal and then we would kiss. Okay, I want the reception to be fun but moo-ing, cluck-ing and bark-ing thru-out the reception would drive myself and others a little crazy! I like the idea of really involving everyone else!

Hey Heidi...
I think everyone is missing the point of your question. I have seen small silver bells, and whenever they are rung...the bride and groom kiss. Most of the bells ordered from the internet come with a poem (about kissing)...and could double for a favor.
I think the golf put is a cute idea...i`ve never heard of that!

Hi Tracie,
Thanks for the bell idea. I like the thought of little silver bells ringing. They may not be as loud or annoying as the clinking of the glasses. You`re right, they would make good favours.
Thanks again!

Congratulations on your celebration! :)
Please know that the Bell Idea has become very popular, and the bells can be done in either silver or gold. They are not very loud, either.
ANother suggestion would be to place a small wedding flag at each guest table. The flag is raised on its stick whenever the guests would like to see a kiss; and the couple can lower the flag once they have kissed. This also ensures that you have plenty of time to circulate among your guest tables.
Another idea would be the use of helium balloons. Tie sets of balloons around the room, loosely. Each guest can release a balloon when they wish to see a kiss; and the end result is a lovely canopy of balloons in your wedding colors.
My final suggestion is a Rose Gift. Set a vase of roses at each table. When the guest would like to see a kiss, they present the rose to the wedding couple. By the end of the celebration, you will have a lovely keepsake display from your guests. (Be sure to have an empty vase on your Head Table to collect the roses when they are presented to you.)
Please keep in mind that all of these ideas will need to be accompanied by a small note at each place setting, explaining the purpose of the item you select, as well as the process by which your guests can see a kiss.
I hope you have gathered enough information to make your celebration very memorable.
Have a grand time! :)

I`m getting married on Saturday, and I used the bell idea. I purchased them at Walmart (100/$35). They came with a poem and we tied ribbons to them that match our colors. Very cheap, very cute and classy.

This may sound a little tacky but I like the idea. The last wedding I was at they knew the guests were going to get a little out of hand. They put a jug on the head table and the guests had to put in a dollar everytime they wanted them to kiss. There was a sign on the jug that said "Honeymoon Money." Although the point is not to make money, but to keep the requests in line. It does pay for dinner once or twice while on the honeymoon.
