Ring Bearers/Flower Girls

I am having two flower girls and two ring bearers in my wedding. My flower girls will be about 8 and the ring bearers will be about four. Because of the large difference in their ages I will have the two ring bearers walk together and the two flower girls walk together. Should the ring bearers go first?

OK I very well could be wrong but I believe I read somewhere that just before the bride walks down the aisle the flowergirl does. I think it was because the petals were just for the bride.
