dull parties

Hi-
I don't mean to sound like an idiot, but when my husband and I have parties, they usually turn out lame. How can I liven things up besides with music and beer? Something casual but sure to get people's attention; any suggestions? Help!

Hi Rae! (You're first name is my middle name *ha*)

Did you check out the "Couple's Shower" thread? There are some pretty funny games in there that I'm sure could be used at non-wedding parties. Board games can also be a lot of fun... if you find the right one :) I know that there's one out there that puts men against women to see who knows more about the opposite sex and it's an absolute blast! Even "regular" board games like Scatergories or Pictionary can be a lot of fun. Or if y'all like to play cards there are some great card games out there that are fun and easy to learn! Another option is movie night. That's what we do with our friends when no one is feeling particularly imaginative *haha* We all just gather aroung the TV and veg out. We've even had some of our friends say that it's nice to just spend time with other couples and not have to worry about what everyone else thinks.

Hope this is what you were looking for!

I have been to a few parties that just didn't seem to be "happening"...(ha!)

...but like Leah said above, "games" can be really cool if they are done right... I sorta think the best idea is to have a few back up plans in case the people at your party aren't interested in what you suggest (never force it cause it usually isn't fun then).... Also, This sounds kinda corny, but a "theme" party can be alot of fun, too(of course it depends on your friends and what kind of personalities they have). It doesn't even have to be "cutesy" it can be something funny ... or something serious..... Have drinks that go along with your theme ( although that can get spendy) and even suggest that people wear something (whether its clothing or a "prop" ) that reflects the theme itself. Lots of food (even if its only snacks) that go with it.....Props(cheap ones are funnier...lol; )....etc.

I dunno... maybe I am just wacky..but that is fun to me;)...lol

Good Luck.........

Hi!

If the party's starting to flag, then play some games like Pictionary (just like charades but you draw out the clues).

Getting some karaoke tapes are lots of fun. You don't need a karaoke machine. Just get yourself one of those "Mr. Microphones" or something similar that you can find at just about any electronics store like Radio Shack.

Personally I like to gear the entertainment to the theme. For instance, if I'm throwing a luau, then we'll hold a limbo contest and have everyone do the hula.

For more ideas of how to make any party spectacular, check out the book I co-wrote with Patty Sachs -- The Complete Idiot's Guide to Throwing a Great Party.

You can order it directly from our site (http://www.PartyPlansPlus.com) to get an autographed copy (just click on the book cover) or go to any major bookstore or online book dealer.

Enjoy! :)

Hope that helps. Have fun! And please don't forget to rate me. :)
