corporate theme parties

We're trying to think up ideas to boost company morale & spirits - a party per month - in the office during lunch hour (which can run over an hour, or outside locations. Would like some theme ideas, crazy or otherwise. Company foots the bill.

When I worked at a law firm we did these kinds of things all the time! We would do Ice Cream Socials where we'd bring in Ben & Jerry's and creat a huge sundae bar, or we'd have it catered for some specific "theme" like Tex-Mex (with fajitas and a mariachi band) or Itialian (sangrias a student opera singer from the local university)... the options are limitless! The favorite was always the one where all the lawyers would bring their boats to work (we worked on the Harbour in Georgetown) and take us all out for a boat ride during lunch!

Hope this gets those juices flowing!

We get together at lunchtime and tell our stories from during the week. Bloopers....etc. (we are customer svc reps for an insurance company). For instance, I had a woman give me a check number over the phone and she said "it's "K" as in canine" hahaha We all get a big kick out of that. Or we have food day where we all bring a covered dish.

I am the assistant of the office administrator at my work. I can tell you one thing, having one of these get togethers once a month is really going to start wearing on you. What if you decided to do it once a quarter instead, that's what we've decided to do. The way we do it is in March we have a St. Patrick's day party, where we have one of the local pubs cater it (beer and all). Then we have a Fourth of July party (beer again) and bar be que hotdogs and hamburgers on the roof. In September we have a labor day party, where everyone pretty much blows off work for the day, and in December we have a half day of work and go down the street where there's a 5Star hotel and have a great lunch. Afterwards everyone is allowed to go home.

Leah, Diane, Ady: Thanks so much for your replies. This is the 1st time I've ever entered a message board, and I'm thrilled with the results. The reason we're doing these parties monthly is that we've learned that our company has been purchased by a huge conglomerate, and we all have approx. 6 months until we're pounding the pavement again. Some of us (me, because I'm the longest term employee) have it in writing that if we stay until the final hour, we share in the equity of the company, so for me it's not too bad. We're trying to keep spirits up, and I'm in charge of that (I'm Office Mgr. & Exec. Asst. to both the President & Chairman of the Board). I welcome all ideas.

GOOD FOR YOU! You rock. What a wonderful way to keep everyone's spirits up. I know it's too late, but you could probably use something similar for other holidays... but we had a pumpkin carving contest here. Each department submitted one and the winning dept. won a lunch at Bobby Vans (a nearby restaurant).
