Wedding Planning: Reception
I couldn't agree more! I can admit this here because I don't have to look anyone in the eye *haha* but when I got my veil I swear I ran around my house wearing it and my shoes humming "here comes the bride" for about 20 minutes! Can you even imagine how obnoxious I was when I got my dress????? *lol*
But really, I am now at the point where I'm not really sure what to tackle next. Like I mentioned before, we don't have much left of our budget so I'm trying to S-T-R-E-A-C-H things out a bit :)
I've got a good one for you (I hope I haven't asked this already)... we aren't having a DJ or Band... as a matter of fact, we're foregoing the "dance" altogether. What in the world can I do so my reception isn't absolutely boring? We've got over 3 hours scheduled for the reception and I would really be disappointed if everyone left right after they ate.
QUOTE FROM DIANE:
Time Flies when you're having fun.....hahahaha.
I went looking for shoes yesterday at lunchtime....my girlfriends were laughing at me because they can't get over how excited I get over the simplest things....and just imagine....I don't even have a date set yet.....We need to start figuring a budget....By the time I get home from work, I eat, get my son ready for bed and then I just relax...hahahaha...I'm not in the mood to think after working all day!!!!!!!! hahahaha

Leah,
Is your reception going to be picnic like or how is it going to be?

We're having an outdoor Bar-B-Que. We're really going to have fun with it... it's going to be a pig roast with all sorts of BBQ sides; like potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, lemonade, iced tea... we're also offering smoked chicken and BBQ beef brisket for people that don't want to eat the pig. It's all going to be outdoors and VERY informal... as a matter of fact, my dad says the minute we say "I Do" he's tearing off his tux and getting into shorts!

Leah,
Brian's brother has a similar party every year...it's a Crabfest. He has a game that he sets up and it is called Frisbee Golf. He puts flags in the ground and instead of using golf clubs you play with a frisbee. It's pretty cool. Then he has a horseshoe pit and volleyball. That way people can mingle for a while and then you'll have all of that stuff to keep em occupied.
Hope this helps!!!!

That sounds like tons of fun... but our reception site doesn't have "room" for games that take up much space. It backs up to woods (where guests are not allowed to go unless they decide not to come back to the reception). One thing we were thinking of doing was having an auction. My uncle is an auctioneer and we were going to auction off the bouquet and the garter... it's got a little bit of a twist to it though: the last bidder is the winner, not the highest bidder. The background music will be "The County Auction" by John Michael Montgomery and as soon as the song ends no more bids will be taken. Then the proceedes from the bouquet will be donated to MADD in honor of Kyle's Mother, and the proceedes from the garter will go to the American Heart Associate in honor if Kyle's Grandfather :) What do you think?

Keri,
I stumbled upon my dress while out shopping with my mom one day. We passed up Davids Bridal and
decided to turn around and go take a look. I picked out six different gowns and the last one that I picked
was the one I bought. Turned out I got it for $250 and I love it. My mom was crying when I came out of
the dressing room. If you get a chance, check it out. It's at Davidsbridal.com....go into bridal gowns and
then click on sheath. It will be the first one that comes up on the left. I got it in ivory and it's gorgeous.
It's sooooo different. Now I got my gown, and still no date set (ha-ha). But it's a start. My mom and dad
ask me everyday when they see me wear it. (ha-ha).
Just go out and start picking up different things......that's how I got started.

Ooooh .... WOW!
Your dress is georgous!: )And it sounds as if you got a great deal too: ) Congrats on finding the right one. I think thats the hardest part of all.......
I am considering making my own if I can't afford something I really want. It seems though that sometimes it can cost more to get all the material and supplies than it does to just buy one. : ( But I know it will work out right when the time comes.... I just keep getting the plans laid out right in my head and as money comes along then I will at least know what I "want" . ( Although I have to admit I keep changing my mind;).......
Thanks for the tip about Davids bridal......Looks like it is a good place to 'Window' Shop; )

Keri,
What can we say??? We try ;-) For the longest time I thought I was a disfunctional bride *haha* It seemed that I didn't know diddly-squat about wedding planning or how to even begin! When it all came right down to it, I just had to pull out all the stops and go with my bad, creative, self *lol*
One of the things that I did, that I will cherish for years to come, is to rip up all those bridal magazines that I have... they weigh a TON and, more often than not, there are only a few pages in each magazine I'm interested in keeping! So I tore out those pages, wrote what magazine & issue they came from and the page number. Now when I go back to reference things (especially dresses) I have everything I need and it's all put together neatly in a 3-ring binder! I have it sorted by attire, decorations, accessories, and several other different catagories and even though I've decided on a lot of things I still like to go back and look through it. It's really interesting to see my range of tastes *haha* Who would have thought I was such a versatile little chicky!
These boards are great too... I've browsed through most of PartyPop's site and just from looking through some of the other pages I've come up with ideas for, if not my own, other people's weddings! I actually helped my MOH design a wedding dress for a mutual friend of ours! Also, I've been making my wedding invitations and a lot of the time I'll do some of the assembeling on the bus during my commute and a lady that I ride with took one home and now I'm doing her daughter's invites for her September 2002 wedding!
Boy, I've babbled a lot... *haha* I should probably go back to work now!
