Rent A Headpiece

I have a beautiful headpiece that I bought right after I found my dress. My dress is perfect, but I changed my mind about the headpiece. The shop wouldn`t exchange it. Jerks. They told me that "we don`t do returns" and "we can`t tell if you wore it or not".
First of all, I wanted to exchange it. They wouldn`t lose any money (in fact, I would have made up the difference because the one I wanted cost more).
Second of all, they know d--- well that my wedding is in August, it`s written all over their cards, and if they couldn`t tell if I wore it or not then who the h--- cares?? Then they can sell it again! It`s not like it was never tried it on in the store! What`s the difference if it sat in my room for a couple months or if it sat in their store for a couple months?
Okay, I`ll calm down. Now that I got that off my chest I have a question to ask everybody. I`m thinking about lending out or renting out this headpiece to local brides so that as many people as possible can get some enjoyment out of it. It`s very pretty, I just don`t want to wear it anymore. I paid $150 for it and I was thinking of charging $10 to rent it, providing there is no damage. Do you girls think there`s a market for something like this or is this not a good idea? Maybe I could expand and have all different styles of headpieces for rent. Or do you think that brides would rather own their own headpiece?

Thanks for you input,
Robin

If you just wanted to exchange the headpiece for a different one, they should have let you. I can understand the "no return" policy, but you weren`t trying to return it, you were trying to exchange it. They are being really dumb. Maybe you should write a letter to the corporate office location for this store and complain.

I wish I could write and complain, but it is a locally owned store, not a chain.

I agree with Jessica. By renting it out to people you don`t know, it could get damaged, lost, or even stolen. Someone may not return it back to you. Just something to think about. (Not to say that the two brides who are interested would do that)

I am doing this exact thing here in Tucson, Arizona...and YES there is a market for it. I price the headpieces from $10 to $25 depending on if it is new or used...and how long the veil is. Many of my headpieces are designed so the veiling is velcroed into place, so the bride can pick both the HP and the veil. I also rent bridal gowns, crinolines, gloves etc. I am able to sell new gowns, and have had a homebased business doing that since 1999, but I am always getting calls from brides who are either on very slim budgets, or did not realize the amount of time it wuld take to order a new gown...so then we can talk rental or i will also sell my rental gowns.
