Smashing!

We`re having a big party in about 2 months time (not strictly an anniversary, but I`m fishing for info.) and we`re thinking of having a smashing time. We`re considering setting aside an area with tables full of cheap/unwanted china and, at midnight, letting people smash what they want! I`ve heard of something like this being done, but am unsure how to go about it - eg Would I be able to get stuff sufficiently cheaply?/ What about the safety aspects, etc.. Has anyone ever been to such an event, or does anyone have any knowledge or ideas?
