Do you think there is a certain amount of time that you should be with someone before you get engaged? Is 8 months too soon?

I met my FH Nov. 4, 1995, we started dating Nov 13 and were engaged Dec 6, 1995. We have been together for almost 9 yrs and we still aren`t getting married for another 21/2. I do not think 8 months is too soon!
