Wedding Dress On The Airplane

I have having my wedding in Las Vegas, NV but flying in from Fairbanks, Alaska. My question is what do I do with my dress on the plane? I have two layovers and don’t feel comfortable checking it with the rest of my luggage can I take it as a carry on? Being as it is a good size item (very fluffy ballgown skirt) I don’t know if I can. Please help is there anyone else traveling to their wedding by plane, how did you solve this dilemma?

Most airlines do provide boxes for wedding gowns. Depending on the size of your gown, you might be able to carry it on the plane with you. It probably won`t fit in the overhead compartment, but they usually have a "closet" type space for hangups and garment boxes in the front of the plane. I would check with the airline to make sure, as they all have different policies.

Most airlines allow at least one carry on item. But it can`t be too large. Try to find a carry-on case that is not too big, to put the gown in.

I am with you on this one! I called most of the major airline carriers, before I booked my flight, and all but Southwest have a closet in which you can store it in depending upon the size, several also told me that I could carry it as a carry on item so it was not checked with the rest of the normal luggage, but as I got on the plane they could take it and check it in another compartment for me, such as strollers, wheelchairs and other larger items that would not fit comfortably on the plane. Then, it would be there waiting for me when I got off the plane to have in my possession for each transfer. Call you carrier and see what they suggest, most of them knew the answer to this question right off the bat, so it is not something that is that uncommon!

Good luck!
