Wedding Ring
Well, I'm getting married soon and I'm not sure how much I should spend on our wedding rings! I'm not wealthy but I also don't want to get the cheapest rings either. What is the average price that people spend on such things?

When I asked around about this same thing the AVERAGE anser that I got was 3 MONTHS SALARY! Sorry dude, but that was out of the question. We've got a kid we're trying to raise! I ended up taking her with me and together we picked out a nice ring for $1800. It isn't huge, but we will eventually get a bigger diamond for it. My brother in law paid $3000 for my sisters ring. It depends where you look and what you are looking for. Talk to your girlfriend about it.

I agree .... that's what they say, only I've always heard 2 months salary. Even so, my fiance got mine for
$1800 as well and I love it. Go check out different places (mom and pop shops) are good. We lucked
out on mine because this guy was a friend of a friend.......Good Luck!!!!

I personally don't think there should be any set rule to the price..... If you have alot and can spend it...Great!... Go for broke...(grin)
But If not--- then do the best you can and just be sure that the other person knows that you would give them the world if you could. And that you want to "add" to it later ..when you can. I think that if you choose a ring that is unique or special then the lack of "diamonds" or cost doesnt matter. My fiance isn't wealthy and has told me that he will someday give me that big diamond he feels I deserve (although it truly is NOT important to me; )... Anyway.... just thought I would add that: )
Good Luck!

We REALLY lucked out when it came to the ring... we had the setting already (it belonged to Kyle's grandmother). We simply had to provide the diamond for it. When we had it appraised it turns out we would have paid over double what we did pay if we had had to buy the whole thing! I have to agree with all the previous posters though... I'm sure she'll simply be thrilled just to get the ring! Very few women are actually concerned with how much it cost. Women, for the most part, don't go around bragging about the price of the rock on their hand. :)

I am about to make this purchase myself. It is three months salary not two. This is the woman with whom you are going to spend the rest of your life. Use you discretion, since three months salary may be too little for some and too much for others. (e.g. Three months salary for Bill Gates would get him some big ol' cheesy ring.) As a rule, a solitaire round cut about a carat in size is best. Do not be showy!

Oh, I hope you haven't gotten the ring yet!!!!!
My fiance bought my ring at Wal-Mart of all places! It is beautiful! It is 3/4 karat & has a lot of diamonds in it. It is not a plain solitaire. I have seen similar rings in the
Jewelry stores for 5 & 6 times the price! There are some rings with gemology certificates &, like mine, some without. As long as you keep your receipt, they will replace it if anything goes wrong. They also size it for free. It takes about 4-6 weeks, but, I got mine sized at a vendor in the mall. It only took 2 hours & was $18 for 2 sizes!
The ring was only $399! Yes-the diamonds are real! If you don't have a Wal-Mart in your area, try K-Mart.
You don't have to go to a jewelry store. So, if you don't
Have a lot of money to spend, go here! Trust me-at least go check it out. You will be pleasantly surprised!
Good Luck!
P.S.You don' t have to spend a fortune when it comes from the heart!!! Just make sure you get down on your knee & YOU slip it on her finger!!! We like it that way!
My ring isn't 'showy', just gorgeous!

I wanted an engagement ring that was unique and "me" and after looking through millions of catalogues and stores I couldn't find anything that I really liked as I didn't want something that looked like everybody else's!! :) We looked at estate jewellery (pre-owned) that people trade in or sell to jewellery stores. We got the most beautiful estate ring (actually, it is a set of two) from a jeweller on sale for $150 Australian (I think around $US75) reduced from $AU380. Even at $380 it was a bargain! Like others have said price isn't all that important and if you shop around you can find some great buys! :)

Apparently the average cost for a wedding ring in the UK is between £300-£500 (approx $435-$725), I don't know what the US average equivalent is as 3 months salary for an engagement ring seems very extravagant - in the UK it is usually 1 month's salary.
My fiance found this out after we became engaged and was absolutely devastated as he had spent 1/2 month's salary and felt like a cheapskate. Not every girl likes a huge rock on her finger, I'm not a diamond fan so my ring has a 1/4 carat diamond but I love it.
Another point on the wedding rings, the UK average is £300 -£500 which I find amazing as the average cost of a wedding dress is £800. You wear the rings every day of your life and you only wear the dress once but people are more willing to spend their money on the dress!

I have to agree with the posts that say that the woman in your life is going to love a ring whatever the size or cost. I have shorter fingers, and anything over a half carat looked HUGE. My fiancee and I ended up buying a "shy" half carat (just under 50 points) and it looks just as big as a half carat because it is bezel-set. He bought a lower quality for a much smaller price, and it still is just as beautiful as the flawless diamond my sister received last year. As a matter of fact, I think it is more beautiful than hers because it is mine! That and the fact that it symbolizes our love.
Good luck!

There are so many different ways to look at this. First of all you can`t put a price on sentimental value. My soon to be husband `s dad died when he was twenty-three, two weeks before he graduated from college. His dad willed him his diamond ring and now his dad`s diamond is in my ring. Big or small the ring will always have it`s own value. It is a beautiful ring, and I have to look at it the next 60-70 years of my life. I say get something affordable, not something that you`ll be eating rice for the next three months. But something that`s beautiful to the eye of the beholder.

My fiancee spent quite a lot on my ring, but to me that wasn`t the issue, what was important to me was the whole meaning behind it, and the promise that it implied, so in reality, the price isn`t the main issue, the love you have is!

One thing to consider is where the diamond comes from. I have heard through a good source that sometimes diamonds come through the black market, especially if they`re from Sierra Leone (sp?). If you don`t want to support blackmail, it`s worth it to get a diamond that is certified. The papers will tell you where it came from and usually indicate that it`s a valid transaction. If integrity is important to you, know where your diamond comes from!

One thing to keep in mind -- your fiancee will not be wearing the certificate that says what her diamond is - she will be wearing the diamond. My advice is to not pay 2000 extra for the certificate. Get a diamond that looks good not one that is ok but has paperwork that says it is good. I work at a jewelry counter and I got a 5/8 carat round solitare from my fiance for $1200 (no I did not get it from my store - we don`t carry them - wish we did). Mine has one tiny flaw that only I know is there (because I looked thru the "loop" at it) which is just my security. I know that if I ever send it out to have anything done with it - it is mine when it comes back. Kind of an insurance! Good luck!

We just bought a one carat round solitaire on bidz for $934. It retailed for $5900. The secret is to get on 10 minutes before the bid closes.

My finace proposed to me, and it was the most wonderful night ever. The ring he put on my finger is beautiful, not something to flag planes down with mind you, but the point is, i never even got a chance to look at it i was in tears...it came from his heart, his promise to love and want me forever. Price and cost mean nothing to me. Maybe i`m old fashioned..oh well that`s just me. And now that he`s told his mom, she has given him the engagement ring his father had given her. So guess what. I`m getting 2 rings. How funny is that? ------`---,--{@
