Smashing!

We`re having a do in 2 months time and, as something unusual, we`re considering having a smashing time. We`re thinking of setting an area apart with lots of cheap/unwanted china and stuff and, at midnight, letting the guests come and smash what they want! I`ve heard of it being done before and have wanted to do it for a while, but I`m unsure how to go about it - eg. Would I be able to get stuff sufficiently cheaply?/ Would I be able to get enough unwanted stuff from myself/ other people?/ What about the safety/legal aspects?
