Engagement Pictures

Hi There!!
We are having our engagement pictures taken in a few weeks and we have not decided what to wear yet. We are taking out pictures at sunset on the beach in San Diego. I am at a complete loss, any ideas are more than welcome!! Thanks!!

Hi there!
Advice- go check out some photographer`s websites and see what other people have worn, also ask your photographer for ideas.

Depending on you and your fiance`s style, the portraits can be casual or formal. On a beach I would suggest neutral colors. Browns, khakis, etc. Or even blues- but stick to light blues- a dark blue will distract from both your faces and the light colors of the beach.
Another option would be for a light floral dress for you and khaki pants and (somewhat) matching shirt for your guy- (matching the floral pattern or colors contained in it) Avoid large, bright prints at all costs.
Also color coordinate!!! This is so important. I am a photographer and have taken many portraits where the couple shows up wearing totally opposite colors, styles, and everything... And the portraits would be so much nicer if you try to stick to similar things. Ex. If he`s wearing khaki pants-you wear khaki pants or light cotton dress/skirt. If he wears a black sweater, you wear a black sweater/cardigan or black shirt. Solids or small patterns work best for portraits- most of all stick to the same color scheme and fabric/texture scheme. This helps to bring the portrait together. I just photographed a session here on our local beach. The couple wore Khaki colored sweaters (we`re in northern MN) and medium colored blue jeans and the portraits turned out beautifully.

Also- for the close up/formal shots try to stick to long sleeved shirts- this will help draw attention to your faces in the portrait rather than the extra skin bare arms would show. However since it`s in SanDiego I would simply suggest bringing a scarf or shawl-if that`s your style- to help cover extra skin. Especially if it`s warm- you and your guy both want to be comfortable above all so don`t overdress. I hope that is more helpful than overwhelming. The best engagement pictures I`ve seen had the couple wearing plain ol` jeans and white t-shirts, barefoot, and sitting together on a rock. Very casual and sweet, not contrived like a lot of formal portraits tend to look.
