Try doing things yourself. I bought our Guest Book $4.99, Cake Set $4.99, Cake & Dinner Napkins 500 Each $27.00, Cake Plates $11.00, Ink Pen $5.00, Toasting Glasses $5.00, 100 Invitations & 100 Thank You Notes $21.00, 100 Thank You Notes $5.00, Centerpieces 64 for $85.00, Decorated 300 Wedding Bubbles for $33.00, Flower Girl Basket $8.00. I`m Having my Dress Made. We`re renting a Community room to have our Wedding & Reception Both at for $450.00 for Both. We`re Cutting others Costs by NOT Renting Table Skirts for all the tables but just the Cake, Gift & Food Tables these are $20.00 each to rent. Also We`re using Rolls of Table Covering for $12.99 a roll That covers 8 Tables a roll so I`ll spend about $70.00 there compared to Renting Table Cloths. I found Baskets to attach Balloons to & decorate the Tables with for $0.97 each . Ballons I also found 72 for $6.25 & 500 yards of Ribbon for $2.95. I`ve found my Bargains at Hobby Lobby, Wal-mart, Big Lots & Hancock Fabrics. If You`re careful & watch for what you want you can finds what YOU`RE looking for but watch for Sales & clearance items.
Hope I`ve Helped

I would love to send you some samples of things that you might want to get, but it`s too expensive and you can do without. I have these products for less than a lot of internet sites. Get in touch with me directly, it won`t hurt or cost you anything to take a look at some samples. Who knows you might find something that you really wanted to get. I can also send you a catalogue that has many favor ideas and centerpiece items. Everything will be very reasonable.

All thsi is nice and dandy, but i still haven`t seen anybody mention food and alcohol. Every wedding i`ve been to, you need a cake, food, and alcohol.
If it`s just a few people, i can see, but if you have large families on both sides, yes you can cut out people, but not that many. And i dont` know anybody that knows how to cook for over 100 people. Therefore i can get a caterer, but that`s gonna cost some money.

Hey Sade - if you have large families then you have all the help you need right there for food. We don`t have a lot of money either and that was one of the biggest concerns that I had as well. I spoke to my future M.I.L and we came up with a fairly cheap costing but decent meal. We spoke to our family members and alot of them were more than willing to help with the cooking, setup and cleaning. My aunt even volunteered to buy the wedding cake for our wedding gift. As far as alcohol, we are supplying the soda and beer and will have a cash bar for anything else that the guests would care to drink. Hope this helps!

IF you have a mid- afternoon wedding, you can cut a lot of the food cost by having only cake and punch and a few finger type foods.A large sit down dinner is for more formal weddings.
As far as alcohol, there`s no rule that says you HAVE to have it. Do punch and maybe even do a BYOB if the guests absolutely want alcohol. You can also have the illusion of it with non alcoholic wines ( grape juice) and it`s not as expensive. Save the champagne for the bride and groom.

I too am on a Strict budget and it sucks. I have decided to get married at a public golf course in valencia ca. I have a tip for flowers get them done at a supermarket. They only charge about 35 per bouquet. You can have a reception and get it catered by students from a culinary school. Have only beer and wine no hard liqour. Where are you? I am in southern california if you are here let me know. Moomoo4343@cs.com

I`m on a strict budget as well and I live in Atlanta, GA where everything is pretty expensive. So far my most money saving has been done on my invitations, I made my own, it was really easy and they turned out beautiful, preetier than most of the ones I saw in the catalogues. I made 100 including and inclusind everything, vellum, reception cards, envelopes, etc. They cost me around $50 for what would have been about $400. I got mine from Joann`s fabric store and they came in kits of 50 with everything you need. They also have place cards, thank you notes etc. I waited until they came out with their 50% of coupons which they do every other week and then got them. Also I got my bubbles from there as well. Another hint don`t buy the headpiece from the bridal shop you go to, mine tried to charge me $150 for a tiara and I found a much better looking one at Hobby Lobby for $20. Al craft stores have alot of wedding stuff that you can make on your own and save a lot of money on.
Also, I`m having my reception at a really nice 5 star restaurant in a Crowne Plaza Hotel. I found that restaurats don`t charge room rentals, bar set up, cake cutting, clean up, etc fees so you can get a really nice meal, we are havin a formal sit down dinner for about $30 a person but we saved in so many other ways. Plus we get the experience of being in a luxury hotel with a beautiful garden etc. Without having to pay luxury hotel prices. A reception at the same hotel in a ballroom was $100+ a person plus a $1000 rental fee and numerous other charges.
Also, if you are worried about the alcohol try having a cocktail hour right before your reception with a host bar-really how many drinks can one person have in an hour. Then have a bottle of wine on each table during dinner
That way you provide some alcohol without spending a fortune. Also try having a white bar with only light colored liqours as they are cheaper than dark liquors. Whatever you do don`t have a cash bar, they are so tacky. If you can`t afford to have alcohol at your wedding then don`t have it at all or have it in moderation. Don`t make your guests pay for it.

A good place to get a lot of decorations is at the dollar store. I got balloons, streamers, napkins, plates, forks, candles, and bowls to float candles in. I also bought large candles there and glues some beaded string on the bottom, put silver rose stickers in the middle and used silver pillar candles from the dollar store and i had my unity candles. I also bought some silk rose bushes there and made rose petals for my flower girl. You can also make your boutiniers and corsauges from there. And for your reception, make it a pot luck. The rest of my stuff i got from ebay, except my brides mades dresses which i got at the bon marche for around 40.00 a piece on sale. Good luck

I live in Atlanta, GA and also have a very small budget for my May 2004 wedding. I was hoping Susan from Atlanta could email me with some helpful Atlanta tips. They would be much appreciated.

Our wedding is a week before yours, and we`re saving some cash on invitations. Instead of spending a couple hundred dollars or more, we`re designing our own and getting them printed at Kinkos for about $70, tax included, for 80 invitations.
We`re just getting them printed on card stock at .35 per page, two invitations to a page and they will cut them for a minimal charge. RSVP cards are somewhat smaller of course, so more can go on one page. Go buy envelopes for it all somewhere, and poof, you`re done. I`m also spending a few dollars extra on rubber stamps to decorate them with, there are some really nice designs out there now, and all sorts of neat embossing you can do if you have the time. I think we`re saving about $200 - $300 doing it this way.
Good luck!

Ok, down and dirty, it will be work, but her goes.
A friends back yard, a party room in an apartment complex. Some parks dont charge at all if you clean them back up, you just have to reserve it. Have one of your friends in charge of everything-somebody that loves you a lot works best. Dont hire anyone to do anything. God made friends and relatives. Have a SIMPLE reception, Cake and Iced Tea, there are lots of cheap domestic sparkling wines that are available ask at the liquor or wine store. Or finger sandwiches go a LONG way. Get your decorations., as someone above said, at Wal Mart, craftstores, discount stores. Get your dress or other things on Ebay. Buy disposalble cameras for your guests to take pictures with and I am sure you will enjoy the results. If you hire a photographer, limit the cost by formal pictures only. Buy flowers at a local flower store, not a major chain, or get silk ones.
The most important thing is Not the dress, not the pictures, not the food, not the Place, it is the fact that you two love each other and want to share this with the world that means something and dont let anyone tell you different

I am sure you have a good idea of what you want by now but here are some more ideas
Parks are great, especially for fall. Who needs decorations when the leaves are turning all those gorgeous colors? You can have the wedding and reception at the same place- no transport fees. The park we picked doesn`t allow alcohol… problem solved.
Keeping things simple will help too. It`s easy to get overwhelmed by all the wedding supplies, most of it costs $ but looks cheap. Try narrowing down
To what you really love and let the rest go.
Instead of picking colors for a theme, just go monochromatic. All white. Or blue, this look is very elegant and modern at the sametime. Buy roses in bulk online- all one color- and use them everywhere. Or start flowers in pots now to use in september, seeds cost less than grown plants, silk or cut flowers. If you don`t have a green thumb, ask someone who does. If you group 3-6 little plants on the tables they could also be favors.
I spent money ($150) on freeze-dried rose petals, but am planning to use them in several ways, as a toss (roll paper doilies or any paper into cones tape and fill, fold top down- seal with tape or a sticker), to line the aisle (instead of a runner) to sprinkle on the tables at the reception (don`t forget around the cake). They will be the main decoration, accented by floating candles in bowls.
I priced matching glass bowls -ouch. Grandma`s china set had 10 matching white bowls ( think cereal size) so borrow. Or how about glass bowls that don`t match- they are all glass -why do they have to be the same?
You can also use things you already own, look around an try to picture your things at a wedding. The net canopy from over a bed looks great hung over the cake table or over a "sweetheart table" at the reception? Do you already have candles? Greenplants? Tie a ribbon around them and go. Do you (or anyone you know) hang white lights during the holidays? They look very bridal when hung around a reception room, even during the day. Clean sheets can be table cloths. Or bunting. What about japanese lanterns? You get the idea.
Anyway have a great time planning and enjoy it!

We chose a Hawaiian Luau for a Wedding Theme. I ordered invitations on computer, if you have a computer you can go to office depot or even get color paper and use print shop etc on computer and print up really neat invites. Ours were Hawaiian Shirts that open and I redid the inside on ms works. We also put in bring a beach towel or blanket or lawn chair for seating, eleminates chairs etc expense. A lot of friends have had luau`s and offered their decorstions to use/keep. Check on line for dresses at Paradise on a Hangar, they have kool dresses and a lot of discounted ones, I got mine there and shirts to match for Groom and shirts for wedding guys etc. If your having a back yard wedding. Look at the natural surroundings, We are also doing something different for music. Karaoke, everyone is estatic. I ordered a cake in an oval shape and a top cake an island. We are having a list of american/hawaiian names for guests and name tags as several different sets of people will attend. And it would be kool to have everyone talking about their "hawaiian names" someone is teaching lei making. Keep in touch. God Bl;ess. Glory

Having a small wedding at the park is a great idea. The park is so much decreation that you do not need much of anything else. If you are want some more beautiful scenery have your wedding at sunset. It is like a picture for your backdrop. If you need to save lots of money, do not have a reception. Make the rehersal dinner more casual and invite more people. If your wedding is at a park you can do a cook-out there. If things like having a cake are important have one at the rehersal dinner. There are no rules for a wedding it is your special day. Include all those people that you love, they love to help out. I hope some of this has helped.

How refreshing to hear all these practical posts! I am getting married on valentines day, and we are keeping it simple.
I rented my dress, slip and veil for 99.00
I found shoes for 22.00 at a consignment store.
I found a red dress for my one attendant for 49.00
My fiance is a youth minister at our church, and I am a teacher, so we woud love to involve these kids in our day...We are asking the youth at church to be assistant photographers. I wil type a suggested list of candid shots (cutest kid, oldest guest, bride guffawing, etc) and place the list and a disposable camera in an envelope decorated weddingy. They will work in teams to complete the photo scavenger hunt during the reception....They are excited about helping in this way!
A couple of friends who are pretty good with amateur photography will help us out as well, one with digital, and one with prints.
Friends are giving the grooms cake, wedding cake, and 100 cupcakes as gifts.
Our punch is red Hawaiian punch with Sprite...Simple and cheap!
My fiance is also the worship leader, and has organized the praise band and singers for the ceremony. He also wrote a song for his proposal, which he will sing that day...
A few friends agreed to meet me at church the night before the wedding to decorate our fellowship center for the reception. We are using ivory sheets from Wal Mart and making table skirts with Tulle. They are the brains here....I`m just showing up with the supplies....
The only big costs we havent nailed down a plan for are flowers and the flower girl dresses. Any suggestions? I need a size 3 and a size 4, and would love to purchase used dresses, as well.....
Oh yes...We are running into a favor cost dilemma as well...Any suggestions there?
Also, I have asked a few church ladies who expressed interest in helping to be in charge of problem solving and questions on our weddiing day at the reception. They don`t have to prepare or make anything, but both have experience helping/coodinating weddings. I told them I would like to wake up on my wedding day, show up, and get married. I will give them folders with information on tables, emergency phone numbers, servers names, etc, diagrams. It is mostly a stand around and mill reception...
